(PEACE NEWS)It was supposed to be the meeting of two European super powers -- in the end it was one of the most turgid and uninspiring Champions League semifinal contests in recent memory.
Real Madrid, the 10-time winner, played out a goalless draw at Manchester City, a team making its debut in the last four of Europe's top club competition.
The result suits Real, which was deprived of its star player Cristiano Ronaldo, who failed to recover from the thigh problem which had troubled him over the past week.
The second leg in Madrid which takes place next Wednesday should allow Madrid to progress to the final with Ronaldo expected to return for a club which remains the most successful in the history of the competition.
Real, which also lost Karim Benzema to injury at halftime, created the better chances and only a series of fine saves by Joe Hart, the Manchester City goalkeeper, denied the visitor.
In Champions League games without Ronaldo, Real has a win ratio of just 43% -- down from 71% in the contests where he's been involved.

Artist Carsten Höller -- developing on an initial proposal by Bblur Architecture -- has designed the 178 m-long (584 ft) helter skelter, set to open on 24 June. The slide is the latest intervention to the 115 meter-tall (377 ft) Orbit, conceived by Anish Kapoor for the 2012 Olympics, following an abseiling attraction completed last year.
"Since 1999, I have built a number of slides, both free-standing and attached to buildings, but never onto another artwork as in this case," says Höller, who installed a pair of spiraling slides at the Hayward Gallery for an exhibition last summer.

Claudio Ranieri's team can clinch the top-flight title for the first time in the Foxes' 132-year history by beating Manchester United on Sunday.

Prince was worth $300 million according to various estimates, including one from Celebrity Net Worth. And his estate is expected to grow as sales of his music have exploded since his death.
Tyka Nelson is the only full sibling of Prince, who died last week at the age of 57. Prince was not married and had no living children or parents who could potentially inherit the millions to come from his estate.

(PEACE NEWS)Donald Trump finally took the plunge.
The real estate mogul and TV reality star launched his presidential campaign Tuesday, ending more than two decades of persistent flirtation with the idea of running for the Oval Office.
"So, ladies and gentlemen, I am officially running for president of the United States, and we are going to make our country great again," Trump told the crowd in a lengthy and meandering 45-minute speech that hit on his signature issues like currency manipulation from China and job creation, while also taking shots at the president and his competitors on the Republican side.
"Sadly the American dream is dead," Trump said at the end of his speech. "But if I get elected president I will bring it back bigger and better and stronger than ever before."
Just over four years after he came closer than ever to launching a campaign before bowing out, Trump made his announcement at the lavish Trump Tower on Fifth Avenue in New York, laying out a vision to match his incoming campaign slogan, "Make America Great Again."

(PEACE NEWS)Before the days of live-streaming and social media, the world of high fashion felt mysterious and inaccessible. Runway shows were as closed as film sets, and it was only through magazine editorials and red carpets that the general public knew what to expect in stores in the coming months. But now it looks like the gap between the runway and the consumer is getting smaller. Last week, Burberry Chief Creative and Chief Executive Officer Christopher Bailey shook the industry when he abandoned the traditional show model, showing both men's and womenswear, a portion of which was available for order after the show, as opposed to six months later.
But what startled most was Bailey's pre-show announcement that his next collection, to be shown in September, will all be available for purchase immediately after the show.
According to Bailey, "see now, buy now" runway is a rational next step for Burberry, now that live-streaming (which the brand introduced in 2009), social media campaigns and ordering straight off the runway are so widespread.
"I think it's frustrating for people to say you have to conform to the way the industry works, even though we're showing it to the public in a very different way [through live-streaming]," Bailey told CNN.
Further emphasizing his goal of immediate, international reach, the clothes themselves were suited for a variety of climates because, as Bailey put it, "In some parts of the world right now it's boiling hot, and in other parts of the world it's freezing cold, so it feels a bit odd to be doing a collection that's only for one region."

"I don't know why God gave me this experience, I never expected to be Pele or to be known all over the world," the legendary striker told CNN's Don Riddell before the recent premiere of his biopic "Pele: Birth of a Legend" in New York. The inspirational rags-to-riches feature, written and directed by American brothers Jeff and Michael Zimbalist, was showcased at the Tribeca Film Festival last weekend and goes on general release next month.
Known for their football documentary "The Two Escobars," the brothers couldn't believe their luck when Pele agreed to the project.

(PEACE NEWS)Ted Cruz and John Kasich are joining forces in a last-ditch effort to deny Donald Trump the Republican presidential nomination.
Within minutes of each other, the pair issued statements late Sunday saying they will divide their efforts in upcoming contests with Cruz focusing on Indiana and Kasich devoting his efforts to Oregon and New Mexico. The strategy -- something the two campaigns have been working on for weeks -- is aimed at blocking Trump from gaining the 1,237 delegates necessary to claim to GOP nomination this summer.
Trump's son: GOP would rather lose with Cruz than back dad.
The extraordinary moves reflect the national strength Trump has shown and the inability of Republicans who oppose the New York billionaire to come together to stop him. Dividing up some of the remaining primary states by putting forward one strong alternative to Trump in each could be enough to take away delegates and curb Trump's run to the nomination.
"This is a nationwide campaign and we're making a decision where to focus our time, energy and resources," Cruz told conservative radio host Laura Ingraham on Monday. "We are now focused very, very heavily on the state of Indiana. It is significant that John Kasich is pulling out of Indiana and allowing us to go directly head to head with Donald Trump."
Kasich said Monday despite the agreement, he still wants Indiana voters to support him.
"They ought to vote for me," he said during a gaggle with reporters at a Philadelphia diner.
"I'm not campaigning in Indiana and he's not campaigning in these other states, that's all. It's not a big deal," Kasich said.
Trump is the only candidate who can realistically get a first-ballot victory -- there's no mathematical path for Cruz or Kasich to clinch the nomination heading into the convention. The billionaire is poised for a strong performance Tuesday, when Republicans in Maryland, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Connecticut and Rhode Island head to the polls.

Fans knew that Guns N' Roses front man Axl Rose would replace Johnson on AC/DC's "Rock or Bust" world tour. But on Tuesday, Johnson, who has been with the band for 36 years, detailed what led to his decision and what he called the "darkest day" of his professional life.
Singer Axl Rose to join AC/DC "Rock or Bust" world tour
"On March 7th, after a series of examinations by leading physicians in the field of hearing loss, I was advised that if I continue to perform at large venues, I risked total deafness," Johnson said in a statement. "While I was horrified at the reality of the news that day, I had for a time become aware that my partial hearing loss was beginning to interfere with my performance on stage."
Johnson, who joined AC/DC in 1980 after the death of original singer Bon Scott, said he was having trouble hearing the guitars and other musicians on stage.
AC/DC reschedules shows to save lead singer's hearing
"Our fans deserve my performance to be at the highest level, and if for any reason I can't deliver that level of performance I will not disappoint our fans or embarrass the other members of AC/DC," Johnson said. "I am not a quitter and I like to finish what I start, nevertheless, the doctors made it clear to me and my bandmates that I had no choice but to stop performing on stage for the remaining shows and possibly beyond."
Johnson said doctors have advised him that for now he cannot perform in loud stadiums or arenas. But he said he has no plans to leave the music industry permanently.
"My doctors have told me that I can continue to record in studios and I intend to do that," Johnson said in his statement. "For the moment, my entire focus is to continue medical treatment to improve my hearing. I am hoping that in time my hearing will improve and allow me to return to live concert performances."
AC/DC is expected to soon announce the rescheduling of 10 U.S. dates that will include Rose at the microphone.

"I will fight, like I have always done in my life. ... I am sure that we will have the opportunity to defend ourselves in the Senate," she told reporters.
But Rousseff slammed the impeachment process against her as unjust, comparing it to a coup.

Rousseff, who became Brazil's first female President when she was elected in 2010, isn't on trial yet. But she could be soon.
The impeachment motion will next go to the country's Senate. If a majority approves it there,Rousseff will have to step down for 180 days to defend herself in an impeachment trial.
That means Rousseff could be suspended as early as May. That would be about three months before the Summer Olympics kick off in Rio de Janeiro, an event that was supposed to showcase Brazil as a rising power on the global stage.

(PEACE NEWS)Katanga province in the Democratic Republic of Congo is blessed with enormous natural wealth, including vast deposits of precious minerals such as diamonds, gold, and tantalum.
Katanga saw a spectacular mining boom around the turn of the century, when President Laurent-Desire Kabila and then his son Joseph licensed international mining companies to tap its treasures.
This arrangement generated riches for the Congolese elite, and vastly more for the prospectors, but offered little to the poverty-ravaged population. From 1999 to 2002, the Kabila regime "transferred ownership of at least $5 billion of assets from the state-mining sector to private companies under its control... with no compensation or benefit for the State treasury," a United Nations investigation found.
The bonanza coincided with a ruthless crackdown on dissent. In 2004, a small, mostly civilian group took over a mine operated by the Australian firm Anvil Mining in Kilwa village, protesting that the company was making huge profits without rewarding the local workforce.

How Donald Trump can win the inside delegate game in New York???

                DONALD TRUMP
(PEACE NEWS)When New York voters head to the polls in the Republican primary on Tuesday, they will be deciding how the state's 95 delegates vote on the first ballot.
But the actual men and women who will cast those ballots at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland this July will be chosen in a separate, new process for the New York GOP. It's the same type of inside baseball Donald Trump is railing against in other states, calling it "rigged," as he's watched Ted Cruz supporters position themselves for success if the convention goes multiple ballots.
In New York, however, Trump has the advantage as he's poised for a resounding victory Tuesday night. He enjoys more GOP party support there than possibly any other state operation, and New York could prove to be a better scenario from Trump than states like North Dakota and Colorado where his campaign has been out-maneuvered for delegates by Ted Cruz's operation.
"There's a lot of support here for Donald Trump," said Nicholas Langworthy, Erie County GOP chairman and a Trump campaign state co-chairman. "I look back to (delegate selection in) Colorado, and I just think what they did is disgraceful because there was no will of the voter paid attention to. ... I think our rules allow us to take into account the will of the voters and also support those who work hard, and deliver most of the support for Donald Trump.
